charmingly-named Finnish choir is dedicated to the performance of
women's vocal music from the Baltic region, music that first came to
wide attention in the U.S. thanks to the Mystere des Voix Bulgares
albums on Nonesuch back in the late 1980s. The virtuosically dense
harmonies, reedy vocal tone, and often thrillingly cathartic chord
progressions of these traditional songs are beautifully rendered by this
group, though there is unfortunately something of a "back of the hall"
remoteness to the recorded sound. Recommended."
